Thousands of men, women and children thronged Marthandam on Saturday evening to have a feel of the new 2.2km-long metal bridge built at Rs 220 crore to decongest the busy Marthandam junction in Kanyakumari district. This is the first time that public were allowed to climb the bridge which is in its final stage of construction.
Union minister of state for finance and shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan who was the man behind the project, was overjoyed to dedicate the bridge to the public for a limited time of three hours from 4pm to 7pm. “I am as excited as a woman bearing a child after many years,” the minister told reporters.
